BCWF Vancouver Island Region One Association Kids Camp 2023
We are excited to be holding our Region One Kids Camp in July 2023, after a two year hiatus due to COVID. The camp will be held at the Courtenay Fish and Game Protective Association on Comox Lake from July 17 - 21st. The idea for the camp came about more than 12 years ago when the concerned members of the Region One Executive identified the lack of young people involved in our Vancouver Island Clubs and Associations. Although many of us hunt and fish, we recognize that a concerning level of the youth in our member families are more interested in video games and social media than enjoying the outdoors. It was and continues to be recognized that there is a need to pass on the respect for nature and enjoyment of outdoor recreation to our children and grandchildren. The purpose of this camp is to introduce youth to various outdoor learning activities, including: fishing, fly tying, archery, .22 shooting, trap shooting, outdoor survival techniques, animal ID and more. It will be taught by qualified instructors, with the purpose of getting these youth to be, THE NEXT GENERATION. Most of all we hope the fun metre will be at an all-time high!!
The camp is a fun learning opportunity for youth 10 - 14 yrs of age and with a maximum capacity of 30 youth. Children or grandchildren of member clubs that belong to Region One can apply to attend. Applications must be submitted through their club and each club may determine who is eligible to attend. We will look towards an even distribution of spots available in order to give more youth the opportunity to attend. If your club has 2 entries, send them in anyway, there may be cancellations etc that would allow for more to attend.
If you wish to volunteer as a camp leader, host an activity or in any other capacity, please let us know by contacting Darlene Clark at the address below.
As this camp is free for the youth, we rely on donations (monetary and in kind) from our member clubs, Vancouver Island Businesses, and donations from generous individuals to fund this wonderful opportunity for youth.
