Dorman Range

This is a fully licensed, well equipped, clay pigeon shooting range, located on Dorman Road in North Qualicum. It attracts people from all across Vancouver Island and shooters young and old, male and female, at all levels of expertise are welcome. A comfortable clubhouse provides refreshments and a place to watch all the action on shoot days.

Dorman Range Reopening

We have reached a point where we feel that the range can safely be opened, with the attached guidelines in force. We will open on Sunday, March 28, at 10:00.

There will be printed copies of the guidelines available at the sign-in table.

Much discussion has gone on re the opening, including with the Vancouver Island Health Authority. We must abide by the attached guidelines or we will be closed again.

The objective of the guidelines is to minimize contact with each other, to prevent passing on of any possible virus. We consider payment for each round of shooting to be a possible contact situation and so we hope to minimize this contact with the purchase of a punch card (which will give you 11 rounds of shooting) for $50.00. Exact cash will be required so no change will be needed.

We also will minimize money contacts by not selling shells. Sorry about that, but most people already have a supply of shells.

Possible modification to the guidelines are:

  • sign-in will be by the person at the sign-in table, not by the individual shooters. Membership number and a contact telephone number will be required.
  • we will use the speakers, so constant contact and sanitizing of the control button is not needed. Once the speakers are set out, do not touch them.
  • masks can be removed at the shooting stations as there is 2m separation between shooters.
  • we will not be recording scores, to avoid contact through paper handling. The common method used for score keeping is for the shooter to place an empty shell in his/her pocket for each clay that is missed. (Bring along a second vest if you feel that you will need large storage pockets.)
Note to skeet shooters:

The skeet field will be closed until the foundations for the high house can be modified. We will advise when that has been completed

Two regulation Trap fields.

One regulation Skeet field.

Ten station Sporting Clays field.

The price per round of Trap is $5.

The price for a full day of Sporting Clays is $35 for a round of 100 "birds" and an all-inclusive lunch.

12 and 20ga ammunition is available in the clubhouse.

All shooters must sign in and also sign up on a squad sheet.

Dorman Range Archery

Archery is available year round at the Dorman Range. There is an outdoor target butt and a field course with bags and some animals. We ask the crossbow shooters not use the field course butts or the target butt and that there is no shooting with broadhead tips. If you wish to meet up with other users of this range or have a tour of the field course please contact us at .
The Club schedule must be adhered to, please note other club events, the standard shooting schedule and activities by checking the web calendar.
We also host an annual 3D shoot at the Dorman Range in February. This shoot is called the Harry Tutton Memorial Shoot, named for one of our long time members. The Harry Tutton shoot is open to archers province-wide.

Range schedule

Regular trap and skeet shoots are held every Sunday from 10 am and even dated Wednesdays from 11 am.

Sporting Clay shoots, including .410 and 28 gauge for squads of 3-5 shooters are held on the 4th Saturday of each month (except December) at 10 am. For exceptions see events calendar. *Sporting Clays - a person can shoot just 50 birds, either morning or afternoon, for $12.50 without lunch.

Sporting Clays is becoming increasingly popular on the island with shooter numbers in excess of 90 not uncommon. We get representation from clubs as far away as Gold River and Victoria and on the big weekends, the field is full of campers. In addition, we get squads made up of husbands and wives and brothers and sisters, grandfathers and grandsons. It's a family outing on one hand and competitive on the other. Come and see what it's all about.

Youth Shooting Program
To encourage young shooters, Dorman Range has a program of discounts for shooters 16 years old and under. This includes free introductory rounds and reduced costs for shells and targets. Youth shooters must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or by a family friend with a letter of permission.

Hearing and eye protection must be worn while shooting Trap and Skeet and while on the Sporting Clays course.

Maximum shot size is 7 1/2.

Guns may only be loaded when on a shooting stand.

Actions must be open at all times when not shooting.
